Open Question: Is it ok to buy a new house that has a plaza going up in front of it? *Read inside?

Ok, so I want to buy this house brand new here but infront of the house is facing a brand new plaza going up later this year. There is no sign of a gate going up to block it from the homes or anything and is it safe to buy it there? The homes there are not selling so they must have to do with the location. What would you do? It is a good thing if I would want to walk over there and pick something up but like I don't know what is going there. If it was like a restaurant, it would be ok but again, there would be a lot of people and I'm not sure. more

Resolved Question: What situation would you choose?

Situation 1: You are 18 and you have a job at a fast food restaurant making around minimum wage and you get about 30 hours a week. You have a car. You live at your parents house with your parents and your 3 younger siblings who are all elementary and middle school ages. You have a tiny makeshift bedroom in the garage with a paper thin accordion door that doesn't lock. You don't really get along with your family. You try not to be home unless you are sleeping, but your mom makes you tell her everywhere you go and doesn't allow you to stay out late because even though you are an adult, you are "living in her house so you have to abide by her rules". You save a lot of money by living in this situation because you only have to pay your parents $75-$100 a week and that includes rent, utilities, basic cable, food, laundry, internet access, and cell phone bill. So all the extra money you get from working, you are free to save and/or spend on yourself. You have a nice amount of free time to yourself too but you feel like you are restricted because your parents' rules tie you down. Situation 2: You are 18 and you have a job at a fast food restaurant making around minimum wage and you get about 30 hours a week. You also have a second job making around minimum wage and getting about 20 hours a week. You have a car. You live in your own apartment with no roommate (which you love because you want to live alone for once after having to live with a big loud family for so many years). The apartment is nice and is in a nice location, which happens to be within walking distance to your first job. You are really poor though and barely ever have any money left in your bank account after paying rent, electricity bills, grocery shopping, and all the other expenses that come with living on your own. You don't have cable or internet in your apartment and you have no backup savings in case of emergency because you can't afford it. You love the independence and freedom but you hate the scariness of living paycheck to paycheck and not knowing if you'll be able to afford everything you need. You don't have a lot of free time to yourself after working so much and then having to go grocery shopping and everything, but you feel free to do whatever you want with no strings attached when you do get pockets of free time.If you want to add why you would choose the situation you would choose, that would be cool. more

Open Question: Why can't I remember the details normal people can?

Don't get me wrong here, I don't think that I am suffering from a memory loss, not in that sense, but I think that my brain is intentionally dismissing details or forgetting things easily. I think the way my brain works as if it had its own pilot, usually I'd plan what I am going to do ahead and think about something else whilst doing it. Say for example that I turn off my car, remove the key and enter my residence. Now, I have a usual spot where I drop my keys usually but if a random even happens like a phone ringing chacnes that I'll leave my keys by the phone and have no memory of it... Before I had my car I used to ride the bus for 2 years, two years, and when I got a license and a car, I got lost. This is even apparent in video games, I do too bad in games like GTA because half of the time I won't remember where I am exactly on the map unless I really try to look and my way of remembering things is to set pointers, distinct locations, restaurants, things like that. when I was a kid teachers use to tell my parents that I apparently suffer from some attention deficiency, I've never had that chicked to this day, I am 23 years old and in shape and this sometimes makes me wonder if I am just plain stupid or there is something wrong with me...so what do you think? edit: something funny yahoo suggested a listing of this as Society & Culture > Cultures & Groups > Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered more

Resolved Question: Need ideas for a "girly" and unique bridal brunch/lunch location...?

I'm having a bridesmaids brunch a couple of days before the wedding. Just a chance to have my girls, the moms and my future sisters-in-law (4 of them) with me and to say thanks for everything that they have done to help prepare for my wedding day. I don't really have room to "host" something at home and I'm looking for a location that is a little unique. Going to a restaurant and sitting around a table is nice, but I would like to go somewhere a little different, something really feminine and girly (like an english tea house). Nothing terribly expensive (around $12-14 plus drinks per person) but nice so the ladies will have a good time. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help!I'm in Charlotte, NC. I'm not looking for names of places. I'm just looking for ideas. Like going to a pottery painting place, or a vineyard, or a tea house... I don't need names of chain locations. Thanks. more

Open Question: Public Meeting Places?

I'm looking for GENERAL ideas on where a discussion group could meet up, on a monthly basis. We're looking for thoughts that would support meeting on the same night each month (For example, the second Friday of each month, every month); the location doesn't need to be *PRIVATE*, but we would like it to have some level of privacy, as the topics discussed can be somewhat graphic in nature, and really shouldn't be thrown around in the middle of public areas. We've been using restaurants and coffee houses for years now, and it's been tough finding new ones whenever the current location stops being available (Remodeling, closing down, other needs, etc). So I'm hoping we might be able to find something a little more permanent. The group is definitely a 'grassroots' type of thing, it really doesn't have any budget to speak of, though in cases of restaurants and coffee houses, we've typically supported them with our patronage. So... Any general ideas would be helpful. I'm somewhat curious as to whether some more 'public' or 'city owned' locations(This seems like it may be more stable) might work while still affording some privacy to our members during meetings. more

Open Question: Going to NYC on Sat. Looking for a place to eat before we see Wicked.?

My fiance and I are Going to NYC on Saturday night to see Wicked. We are going have dinner before the show and I'm looking for a good place to go. I'd really prefer it to be within walking distance or a short cab ride from the show or the train. Hopefully nothing too loud. I know there was a quiet street of restaurants, like "Restaurant Road" or something, at about 49th or so. Maybe low 50's. But I can't remember the exact location. Any suggestions of a nice place to go? more

Open Question: What do you think Illegals hired at Senor Pancho's?

The owner of Senor Pancho's, a popular Mexican restaurant with locations in Monroe, Southbury, Prospect and Litchfield, admitted in federal court Tuesday that his chain employed at least 10 illegal aliens in the past year. Andrew Adames, 43, of 41 Punkup Road, Oxford, waived his right to a grand jury indictment and pleaded guilty to unlawful employment of aliens during proceedings before Senior U.S. District Judge Peter C. Dorsey in the New Haven federal courthouse. Adames was released on bond pending a Sept. 18 sentencing. While the offense carries a maximum five year prison term, Adames, who has no criminal record, only faces up to six months in jail based on a preliminary calculation of his federal sentencing guidelines. He did agree to forfeit $150,000 to the government payable in three $50,000 installments. Adames admitted he employed at least 10 illegal aliens in his restaurants between January 2008 and January 2009. None of the 10 were charged federally with entering the country illegally. His restaurants bill themselves as "a little Tex...a lot of Mex." The Monroe site is located on 262 Main Street on Route 25. The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires employers to hire only American citizens and aliens authorized to work in the United States. Employers must verify eligibility of any persons hired after November 6, 1986, by completing an Employment Eligibility Verification form. Open Question: I want to buy a restaurant. How do I go about finding financing?

I have been in the restaurant business my whole life. I have managed large chains and opened new locations for such chains. I am now looking to purchase my own place. I am only 28 years old, but I have over ten years of management level experience in the industry. However, I have no collateral. I owe some money to the IRS, and I have a bankruptcy from a few years ago. My recent credit is better, but all that other stuff is still on my credit report. I know that I can develop a pretty convincing business plan, but without any collateral or stellarr credit, I don't think I can probably get a traditional bank loan. Perhaps I am wrong. If someone has experience with this type of situation, please let me know. How do I go about finding financing and/or investors to make my dream a reality? Would it help if I formed a corporation or LLC first? Any and all advice is appreciated. more

Open Question: While in Venice in September....?

I have a number of questions. I have been researching every online site I can find, so please don't just direct me to a URL. I need advice from someone who has "been there, done that." From St. Mark's to the cruise port, it appears I can take a vaporetto to Piazzale Roma or Alilaguna to Tronchetto. What is the difference and which is better to get to a cruise ship, with luggage? After leaving the cruise ship, I will need a decent hotel room for one night. If possible, I'd like to avoid the $200/night hotels, but still be in an easily accessible location (from the port) and a good area for sightseeing. Pre-cruise, I'll be staying very close to St. Mark's Square. I need restaurant recommendations. Finally, any other tips, suggestions, advice?I've read Cruise Critic, Travel Advisor, Virtual Tourist, Venere, Expedia, etc. and will ask questions on some of those sites too. In all the researching I've done, I've read the same general advice. For hotels and restaurants I'm seeking specific recommendations from travelers based on their own experiences. more

Voting Question: I want to open a restaurant...so what comes 1st?

I have been a manager at a successful rest. for 6 yrs. and because of Hurricane IKE the rest. is no longer standing, so the cook and I want to venture out and try it on our own. I know in detail what hard work it is but I also love the challenges and rewards of the buisiness, we have a location and have spoken to the owner and worked out details for leasing, we have the menu planned out, know what items get to furnish and stock the inventory, but here is where I am stuck...we have 75% of the start up capital but need to approach the banks, I have a great buisiness plan ready to hit them up with, but in what order should i proceed for the following: do I apply for the DBA 1st? or do I apply for our BCBG(food beverage permit) 1st I dont want to get stuck getting one thing and not the other and not be able to open. I have secured quotes for insurance policies, liability and contents, biz loss etc, we know who are staff is going to be, so I have most of my bases covered except the legalities, the really important stuff, I know we have to pass inspection w/health dept before opening but do I need to notify them now of our intent or wait till the permits/licenses and DBA are in place. Resolved Question: Could I get in trouble for drinking with someone under 21?

I'm 21 and two of my friends are 19 and 20. I've have been to each of their apartments before for poker games, sports games etc where we have had a few beers. They both have fake IDs that have not failed to work before. Well they found a local Mexican restaurant with a bar, that has happy hour Monday through Thursday and they asked me if I wanted to make that our new watering hole. Well as you can see from my question, I'm of drinking age and they are not. I don't know if the police raid restaurants with bars, but could I get in trouble for being with them? I would not be contributing to the delinquency because they are paying for the drinks and driving their own cars to the location. I am not providing them with alcohol or any means of obtaining it, could I be in trouble for drinking with them? more

Voting Question: Should U.S. Taxpayers be subsidizing the continued expansion of Fast Food restaurants (through the SBA)?

"According to a recent study by the Heritage Foundation, the SBA is still providing free investment capital to some of the nation's largest corporations. In 1996, the SBA guaranteed almost $1 billion in loans to new franchisees. More of those loans went to the fast food industry than to any other industry. I've always been intrigued by locations which have been every kind of business, such as: convenience stores, laundromats, small restaurants, tailor shops, and many other things. Voting Question: What is a creative way to give Yankees tickets as a Father's Day gift, if I don't have the tickets yet?

I am taking my Dad to a Yankees game for Father's Day... I did it the past 2 years as well and presented the tickets creatively. The first time, I presented a "menu" like you'd get at a wedding (very fancy, nice paper, etc.) and each course was part of the day: the appetizer was brunch at a specific restaurant, the baseball game was the first course, the second course was dinner at another restaurant, and then dessert was at a specific ice cream place. I didn't have the tickets when I presented the menu, but it was great. Last year I actually had the tickets, so I did a scavenger hunt throughout my house, and the tickets were the at the location of the last clue. Now I just can't think of something creative for this year! I don't have the tickets in-hand, and I definitely don't want to do a "box in a box in a box" idea... please help!Note: the game is not for a few weeks. Tickets are on their way, but I have not received them yet. This is doubling as a birthday gift, so I have until June 28th. Please keep the ideas coming!! more

Resolved Question: Disney Free Dining Plan?

Anyone taken/taking a trip anytime soon on it? My family and I (myself, husband, daughter-16) have been doing it for years. We are going 9/12-9/19. We love it so much! This year we are staying at Coronado Springs, and we have stayed there before, and other resorts, but its our favorite. Also, we have a 7 day park hopper with water park fun and more on it. We have already booked our dinner reservations, and we are going to... -Whispering Canyon Cafe -The Plaza -Sci-Fi Drive Inn -Kona Cafe -Le Cellier -Yak & Yeti Restaurant -Boma We have already been to these in previous trips... -Sci-Fi Drive Inn -Boma -California Grill -Cape May Cafe -San Angel Inn - Mexico Pavilion -Coral Reef -Planet Hollywood -Grand Floridian Cafe Anyways, I was just wondering what other people were doing on this plan. Like: How long are you staying? How many people are you traveling with? Where are you eating at? Where are you staying at? Have you already made your dining reservations? What are your favorite counter service locations? Favorite rides? blah blah blah... Yeah, I was just wondering how other people do their Disney vacations. I know ALL about Disney, but I was just wondering how others view it. Just curious. Thanks! :D more

Resolved Question: Should I take a low-paying job that has nothing to do with my field or wait things out for my dream job?

I lost my job 8 months ago. I have been working in a restaurant temporarily and getting by ok. I really want to move to a different part of the country and get a great job in my field. I've been traveling all over for interviews (at the employers' expense) for the past several weeks. While I am still waiting to hear from a few, most have let me know that I was not the chosen candidate. I am really unhappy working in the restaurant, although I am truly thankful for a job. I just got a job offer for a good government position completely out of my field located where i live now. If I accept this job, will I be selling myself short or being practical? I don't really care for the job or want to stay in the area. The salary is only about 2/3 what I have been making in the past few years. However, this is my 2nd job offer out of over 200 applications, and every interview seems to score me as the 2nd candidate of choice. What really kills me is that I have four interviews scheduled in the next month for jobs I would LOVE that I would not be able to attend because of starting the new job. Would it be better to stay at the restaurant and wait for a great job in a great location? Or should I take this job here? (In a different economic climate I would definitely turn down the job and wait.) Thanks for any insight! more

Resolved Question: How can I find copy machine locations in New York City? (or elsewhere for that matter)?

Wondering if there is some copy machine database, or manufacturer database or something. I can always locate a local ATM online, and I can find Post Office Locations, even fast food restaurant locations...soo How do I find copy machine locations? Would such a lit include copy machines in small corner stores too? Or just major stores? more

Resolved Question: Should I go to a family reunion of my husbands?

I don't really want to go. I know it sounds stupid, but the reasons keep stacking up. We have been married less than a year. I don't feel comfortable around his family. I don't like the arrangements. I just don't really want to go. My dad says I should go so I don't cause problems or ill will. Others say stay home and relax without all the kids. Let my hubster have a good time. I am just debating (in my mind) on whether I should go. On one hand I think it would be fun to see some of the stuff, but it's not enough to persuade me not to go on my own vacation. I don't want to hurt my DH's feelings, but I just don't wanna go. It's just some things that are on my mind and the reasons for not going pile up: - His family says rude off handed remarks and I don't believe he would defend me in the least bit. - I believe my SD has been telling his siblings and parents ugly things and they will treat me horribly based on those things. - I don't feel a part of this family. I have only talked to them once. They want a family pic. I just don't think it's appropriate that I be in these... - they are all Catholic (I am just a plain ol' Christian without a pope) I don't want to go to mass, let alone freak my bio kids out with the whole church thing. My DH practices with us and just doesn't do Communion. I have no problem with them going, but I don't wanna go to that by itself. - I am on a diet and the food choices are limited since we are staying on some sort of resort type situation in a remote location. It's family-style and I have no way of knowing what's in the food. - while everyone would get there 2 days ahead, because of my kids' activities, I would only be there one night and I don't want to travel that far just to stay one night, in a cramped room with his bio kids and grand baby. Like I mentioned earlier, I need to retreat not go into the fire.I looked at the beds and they looked absolutely ragged, overpriced and miserable. Then have to get up the next morning, drive to mass an hour or so away and then eat at a Mexican food restaurant. Sounds like a really bad idea for me.I would go for family but he doesn't talk to them either. In fact, he tells me he can't stand them because they also are abusive to him. I was the one who encouraged him to get his mom flowers for Mom's day - something he had never done - ever.I would go for family but he doesn't talk to them either.
